Hypnotherapy for Expectant Mothers
Fear, anxiety and maternal feelings of a loss of control can play a role in the incidence and intensity of pain during childbirth and are associated with an increased risk of post-traumatic stress disorder. Studies have shown that babies born to mothers who had noted anxiety during their pregnancies are more apt to suffer from colic, can be fitful sleepers and cry more often.
Fear in labor can create tension, which increases pain, then more fear, and the cycle continues. Fear and anxiety can also create adrenaline production in the body, prolonging the labor and increasing the chances of a Cesarean Section surgery. Freedom from fear can make a significant difference in the birthing experience.
There are several commercialized and pricey programs that incorporate hypnosis for labor and delivery (Hypno-Birthing, Hypno-Babies) but they do not address the prevention of post partum depression. I utilize various guided imagery and clinical hypnosis techniques to help my clients feel happier and make the necessary changes needed to remain calm and in control throughout their pregnancies, during labor and post partum. You are always aware of everything around you, and as your labor progresses, you’ll go deeper inside yourself, trusting in your body’s natural ability to give birth with ease and comfort. Your mind is trained and ready to give you exactly what you need as you give birth to your baby.
Note: if you have quite a bit of anxiety or have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, it’s recommended that you begin your Natal Hypnotherapy in the first trimester, with some follow up sessions in the last month of your third trimester. Otherwise, studies have shown that just three sessions in the third trimester is all you need to prepare yourself for a beautiful labor and delivery and reduce your chances of post Partum Depression. I include take home recordings at no extra charge for all of my expecting clients. Listening to the recorded sessions daily furthers the learning of the techniques and can also be a huge help during labor.
