Canadians pay billions of dollars each year for diet programs, diet books and diet pills — all with scant evidence that they work. Programs vary and can require payment for memberships, weekly meetings, consultations, coaching or special foods.
Countless Canadians have lost and regained the same 30 or 40 pounds over the years on all kinds of diets from Weight Watchers to Ideal Protein. They lose weight, feel good for a while and then, relax a bit. And once they stop putting the effort in they ultimately return back to the old habits find themselves right back where they started.
Weight loss is simple: Calories burned versus calories consumed. Consume more than you burn and you’ll gain weight, burn more than you consume and you’ll lose. So why is it so hard then? Why do some of us struggle with that extra 30 or 40 pounds while others don’t?
There are many factors into play here: Beliefs about your body that you aren’t aware of, feelings about food, habits & lack of motivation.
For example I had a client once who grew up for a time listening to her mother and her friends gathered around the kitchen table gossiping about a neighbour, a neighbour who was attractive and slim and healthy. The picture these women painted of this woman wasn’t pretty and she was subject to their scorn, perceived as being selfish, conceited and untrustworthy (around the husbands anyway). So my client, as a young impressionable girl developed a belief about slim, attractive women and without realizing it, had created a reality in which she was not “that woman”. Once we discovered and changed that limiting belief, she was able to develop a new relationship with food and create new habits and a new lifestyle. And she lost weight. Slowly over a period of several months she was able to drop over 30 pounds without effort. She was just naturally more mindful of the calories she took in and had a greater enthusiasm for being active and burning them off once she did.
I’m not making any promises of a quick fix here, some clients feel drastic changes with just two sessions while others may need 5 and some may even need to come back for follow up sessions here and there.
I do know however that until you eradicate those underlying reasons you will always be stuck in that weight loss/weight gain cycle. I also know that the price of a few Hypnotherapy sessions is significantly less than a one year subscription plan for the average weight loss program.
